This is a new sockeye salmon pewter charm. It is made in the USA from Safepewter which is a lead free metal. The Sockeye is one of the smaller salmon species. Its range is the Northern Pacific between Russia and Alaska. Like all salmon, the Sockeye swims upstream into freshwater rivers to spawn. During spawning the male develops a brilliant red coloration. Soon after spawning, the Sockeye dies. Their numbers are being depleted by dams which block their spawning routes. The Sockeye is one of the few endangered species which humans depend upon as a food source and its decline is being taken very seriously. Tough new fishing laws have been instituted by the S.S. and Canada to curb their dwindling numbers Makes a great gift for yourself or a loved one.
